The name of the charity was adopted from the native language Quechua, used by the Peruvian communities Wawa supports, and means "child".

Working to provide educational opportunities and improved medical care for some of Peru's poorest children living in remote Andean Communities

| History |
|
The charity was set up in 2003 and registered with the Charity Commission in 2006. A team of Trustees was formed in the UK to assess potential projects. Volunteers in Cusco oversee the distribution of funds and supervise projects to completion.
